Apple Opts for 'Trick'

I’m so freaking mad. I have to post again. Apple’s service is so terrible. I can’t believe they won’t send me my replacement until they get a notification from FedEx that I’ve sent this one back to them. It’s so innane. I mean, I could put a brick in a box and fedex it to them. This is the sort of shenanigans that really piss me off.

What a freaking Halloween. I can’t believe they pulled this trick on me when I thought I was getting an awesome treat.

:@ !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m so freaking pissed off. The ass-hats at Apple sent the wrong freaking Mac. It’s got a goddamned matte screen when I asked for glossy. Now I have to wait up to 5 f!#$ing business days to get a replacement shipped out. They first have to email me labels to use to send it out from fedex, then I have to take it to fedex and only when they get confirmation that I sent the mac back will they forward the replacement on to me. What a bunch of fuck-tards.

Goddamn I’m mad. I’m not going to be able to function for the rest of the week until I get my glossy Mac and all is right with the world. If I don’t get it by Friday, I’m going to totally flip out and kill people ninja-style.

Oh Boy Oh Boy

The new MacBook Pros with Core 2 Duo chips came out last week. I’ve been wanting one since God knows when, so I bought one. I ordered it last Thursday for something like $2600. 2.33GHz of dual core goodness, an ATI Radeon 1600 mobility graphics card with 256MB video ram so I can run games & Vista, a 15" screen (only WXGA I think, which is too bad — I wish Apple offered a WSXGA display in the 15" model), 2GB Ram and a HD upgrade to 160GB.

It’s a bit sad that you can get 2 Dells for the price of one of these, even with my 8% corporate discount, but I would never have been happy with a Dell. I’d see people in coffee shops with their smug little Macs, taunting and shaming me. Now, I, too shall display my sub-optimally specced but superiorly designed and aesthetically rewarding hardware to the drooling Dell-plebs.

Anyway, the little bundle of joy is supposed to be on the Fedex truck for delivery right now. I’ve been anxiously following its trek from China to my doorstep. Only yesterday at 1:38am it was picked up in Shanghai and as of this morning at 7:14am, it’s "on FedEx vehicle for delivery".

Naturally, I’m staying home from work this morning to receive it.

I’ll be posting pics & reviews, I imagine, as well as software for Mac recommendations and thoughts on Parallels / Bootcamp since I’ll certainly be running Windows as well.

I imagine one of the first things I’ll be doing with this Mac is borrowing Rich’s bluetooth barcode scanner and running Delicious Library on all my crap.

Speaking of crap, in order to defray one of the Dells worth of the cost of my new Mactop, I’m going to be selling some things: my old Titanium Powerbook G4 (867MHz, 384MB Ram), a 32" or so Sony TV, and a Sony 21" CRT monitor. I need to get rid of these things anyway, and this seems like the perfect opportunity.

Talking about My Windows Live Local collection

Well, I just tried to add a blog entry from the windows live local collection I made for my NYC trip, but it’s pretty ghetto how it comes out (I was expecting an inline map where I could enter notes on the tooltips — this is pretty weak).

Long time, no post

Yeah. Well, I’ve been busy. But now I’ve got some time — I’m taking the rest of 2005 off of work to stay at home, hang out with friends, get my condo set up, etc. For now, a quick update:

Went to Vegas for Ed’s wedding reception. That was super fun. Saw good friends, went out into the desert, rode the rides on Stratosphere, had some great food, saw ‘O’, lost a bunch of money, got drunk, gave a toast (not in that order).

On the 1st of December, I started in on radiation. They’ll hit me 17 times for a total of 30 Gy of radiation absorbed by the bad areas. I’ve had 6 treatments now and will finish on the 23rd. Side effects are just starting and the first one I’m noticing is a sore throat. It’s not too bad so far, but I expect it to get a fair bit worse. I’m suppoesd to start to have trouble swallowing and have to eat softer, blander food, etc.

The good news, though, is that after radiation, it’ll be over and I’ll be back to normal in the middle of Feb or so.

Bill came into Seattle last Wednesday for work, so it was awesome seeing him. We went to Shiro’s for sushi and it was phenomenal. Definitely my best Shiro’s experience and one I’m going to try to replicate this coming week.

On the list for this weekend is my usual Saturday excursion to the comic shop. Only now, the comic book guy has comics and coffee (and great coffee at that), so I may not get bubble tea. I’ll also probably cut back my subscriptions now that I can read the books in the shop whist enjoying a tasty beverage.

I’ll post pictures of radiation and my new condo in the not so distant future.

See you next time!

Condo search complete

I’ve found a condo I love and I’m buying it. I’ll upload some pictures I’ve taken soon, but for now that link to the listing will have to suffice.

It’s at 1406 Harvard Ave, Seattle, WA 98122, which is a super urban neighborhood, yet it feels very private inside. It’s got a fair bit of space, a few cool skylights, and one super awesome tiny room that has like a 30 foot ceiling of all skylight.

The only 2 downsides are a lack of parking nearby for visitors and no real view of anything out of the few windows. The place still has a good bit of natural light because of the skylights, so I don’t really mind the lack of windows and it adds to the feeling of privacy.

I’m sure I’ll post more about it later. But I need to get back to work!

Veronica Visit

My dear old friend Veronica (aka Sweet Tits) came to visit me (and Seattle) last weekend. It was a great time. It was a non-treatment weekend for me, so I was feeling pretty good (albeit tired) and we were able to do a bunch of things like: pike place market, space needle, emp, sci fi museum, see a movie, arboretum, japanese gardens, go for a swing ride, have a tasty brunch at Salty’s on Alki, go book shopping, discuss the MIT glass pumpkins, etc.

My media center’s network card is fux0r at the moment, but when it pops back up I’ll post pictures from the weekend.

Thanks for visiting, V! I had a great time.

punk cred

Last Thursday, after a fine Rockstar evening, Heather, aided by Dave, tricked me into getting a mohawk:

Either everyone engaged in a massive conspiracy to deceive me by telling me they all loved it or I’m the only person that thinks I look absolutely ridiculous with a mohawk.

In any event, you can find more pictures of it here. And this is really the only chance you’ll get. On Friday evening, about 20 hours after getting the mohawk, I shaved it all off. So now I look more like a traditional cancer patient.

I think I'm onto something with this hair..

Since all my hair is expected to fall out, as with a ficus, any day now, I figured I would do something unlikely with it.

So now, with Ali’s help, I have cool blue hair. This was the night of the coloring and my hair was seriously blue then.

The next day, being saturday, I went into town to get a gyro, some bubble tea, and my comic books. Yes, I read comic books. I read lots of things. Vick was along as usual, as were Denise, Ali, Amy, and Dave. Anyway, you can see my blue hair was a big hit. Denise seems to like it. One thing you’ll notice about Denise when you see her in many photos: she’s very photogenic. I, on the other hand, am looking a bit flabby. I think not exercising for a month hasn’t done me any wonders. I still weigh exactly the same (actually a few pounds less) as I did  a month ago, but I’m sure I’ve lost some muscle. I’ve resolved to head back into the club tomorrow, even though my ankle still pains me. It needs to be done!

Here we are on the way to the gyro place. You can see that even 2 weeks post chemo my hair is thick and luxurious.

At the end of our time in the U District, Heather joined up with us. She had been promised a movie, but Denise and the lovely day conspired to trick us into going to the zoo instead. It was pretty fun for the first hour or so, but then my ankle started to hurt. By the end of the day, my left foot was in complete disrepair. We had thought to go to the zoo just to kill a couple hours before seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the IMAX theater, but that didn’t work out at all. It took a while to get there and we couldn’t have seen much and gone to the movie. We spent a good deal of time searching for baby tigers, only to find they had retired at 2pm. At least we saw some lions and komodo dragons.

By the time 5 rolled around, a few of us were ready to join the penguins and break out of the zoo. We continued the day at Pacific Place where we ate at Gordon Biersch (sp?). I had a tasty blackened mahi mahi on a bun with cajun remoulade sauce. After eating, we stopped by the bookstore and I bought a few items, one of which is titled How to Read a Book. Obviously, I’ll need to read this one first. At some point in Barnes & Noble, Heather got a phone call and had to bizounce.

Sad for the rest of us and for her, for after leaving the bookseller’s, we went to see The Aristocrats at the Cineplex Odeon. It was probably the raunchiest movie I have seen. Ever. But it was also wicked funny. I advise anyone who is not offended and enjoys a good laugh to see this film. However, if you are easily (or even reluctantly) offended, this movie may not be for you. I think everyone I saw it wth other than Dave was at least a bit offended at parts. Of course, I wasn’t, since I am impossible to offend.

After the movie, Dave and I got a ride to my house where we watched Stargate: Atlantis. Then Dave left and it was bedtime for Johnzo.

You can find more pictures of the blue hair and the zoo over in the photos section of my space.
