{"id":190,"date":"2011-09-17T23:28:44","date_gmt":"2011-09-18T03:28:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.forawesome.net\/blog\/?p=190"},"modified":"2011-09-18T11:18:59","modified_gmt":"2011-09-18T15:18:59","slug":"synology-arrived","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.forawesome.net\/blog\/2011\/09\/synology-arrived\/","title":{"rendered":"Synology Arrived"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Amazon delivered it around 11am this morning.<\/p>\n<p>I opened it up and started reading the online manual. \u00a0Turns out that they have a Synology Hybrid RAID technology that seems close enough to Drobo&#8217;s BeyondRAID to suit my needs: you can add drives as you go, add drives with different sizes, etc.<\/p>\n<p>But I overestimated how many hard drives I&#8217;ve got sitting around.<\/p>\n<p>So I ordered some 3TB Hitachi 5K3000 drives to use. \u00a0They&#8217;ll come Tuesday. \u00a0Sucks that it takes so long, but it will take me a bit of time to figure out my whole backup strategy anyway&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Now I&#8217;m regretting I didn&#8217;t wait for the Synology 2411+&#8230; \u00a0Hmph. \u00a0Well, not like I need more than 9TB now anyway, but still.<\/p>\n<p>Drobo emailed me back and asked if I had the thing plugged into a surge protector or directly into the wall. \u00a0WTF kind of absurd question is that? \u00a0Weaksauce.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Synology arrived, but I need drives.
